CONWAY RIVERWORKS

Specialists in river frontage, marine construction and bespoke waterfront projects across the Thames Valley.

Working on and around water brings a unique set of challenges. Changing levels, unstable ground conditions and restricted access all demand a different level of thinking. At Conway Riverworks, we combine practical experience with engineered solutions to deliver work that performs in real conditions, not just on paper.

RIVERWORKS SPECIALISTS

At Conway Riverworks, we bring decades of groundwork and engineering experience into the specialist demands of riverside and marine construction.

As a dedicated division of M J Conway Ltd, we build on over 45 years of experience delivering high-quality projects across a wide range of environments. That heritage gives us a solid foundation, but it’s our focus on water-based projects that sets us apart. We understand the differences, the risks, and the level of detail required to get things right.

Working beside water is rarely straightforward. River levels fluctuate, banks shift, and what appears stable one season may not be the next. Add in limited access, environmental considerations and the need for durable materials, and it becomes clear why experience matters.

River Flood Defence Specialists

We don’t approach projects with a fixed template. Instead, we take the time to properly understand the site, the intended use and the long-term expectations. Whether it’s a private river frontage, a commercial mooring solution or a complex access structure, our aim is always the same, to provide a solution that works reliably and stands the test of time.

Our team combines practical construction knowledge with engineering thinking, allowing us to adapt to challenges as they arise and deliver results that are both functional and well considered. We take pride in doing things properly, paying attention to the details that often get overlooked, and ensuring that every element of the project contributes to a strong, lasting outcome.

Our Services

Purpose-built solutions for riverside environments, designed around real-world use and long-term performance.

River Frontage & Timber Capping

Timber has long been used in riverside construction for good reason. It offers durability, flexibility and a natural finish that sits comfortably within its surroundings. We use carefully selected hardwoods to cap and reinforce existing river frontages, as well as to construct new timber features where required. Each installation is designed to handle the pressures of water movement while maintaining a clean, sympathetic appearance.

Mooring Posts & Bollards

Mooring solutions need to do more than simply secure a vessel. They must account for changing water levels, seasonal variation and ongoing use. We design and install custom mooring posts and bollards tailored to each site, often incorporating sliding rings and protective fenders to allow boats to rise and fall naturally with the river. Where required, we can also integrate power and lighting to improve usability.

Erosion Control & Bank Stabilisation

Erosion is a common issue for properties alongside water, and left untreated it can lead to significant land loss and instability. We assess each site individually and recommend the most appropriate solution, whether that involves engineered systems such as sheet piling and gabions, or more natural approaches using vegetation and ground reinforcement. Our aim is always to stabilise the bank while respecting the surrounding environment.

How We help

We take the time to understand how the space will be used and what you want to achieve. By discussing options openly and explaining the pros and cons of different approaches, we help you make informed decisions with confidence.

Flood Defence Solutions

Flooding is an unfortunate and more regularly occurring reality for many riverside properties, particularly during periods of sustained rainfall. We design and supply bespoke, modular flood defence systems that can be erected when needed, offering  protection without permanent visual impact. Each system is tailored to the property, taking into account client access, drainage and ease of use.

Wet Docks & Slipways

Constructing a dock or slipway involves far more than excavation alone. Working in and around water requires specialist knowledge, equipment and planning. We manage the full process, from initial design through to construction, ensuring that each element is built to perform under demanding conditions while remaining practical for everyday use.

Pontoons, Jetties & Access Structures

Safe and reliable access to the water is essential, whether for private use or commercial purposes. We design and build bespoke pontoons, jetties, landing stages and footbridges, using a combination of materials including hardwood, composites and metals. Each structure is tailored to its setting, ensuring it not only functions effectively but also complements the space around it.

Dredging & Silt Clearance

Over time, silt and debris can build up in wet docks, boat houses and quieter sections of water, reducing depth and limiting access. We provide effective dredging and clearance services to restore these areas, improving usability and helping to maintain safe operating conditions. Our approach is careful and controlled, ensuring minimal disruption while achieving the required result.

Bespoke Engineering Projects

Some projects simply don’t fit into a standard category. When that happens, we apply our broader engineering knowledge to develop a tailored solution. We enjoy working on challenging briefs and take pride in delivering results that meet specific requirements, however complex they may be.

HOW WE HELP

Every project begins with a detailed look at the site. We assess water behaviour, ground conditions, access constraints and any environmental considerations that may influence the design. This early stage is key to ensuring the right decisions are made from the outset.
